Default what causes a collasped lifter?

does it happen when u put to much pressure on it with the cam and springs etc? cause my engine is ticking now and and im praying its not a lifter causes the lifters only have 25,000 miles on them and the cam is a small one with not to much lift. also when i took the lifters out they looked good and i havent floored teh car yet and i already hear the ticking..... and what exactly happens when ur lifter collapses?

Check the easy stuff, like check for loose rockers or spilled rocker bearings, or broken springs.

Like Guits says or it is just valvetrain noise.

If it is one lifter, the possibility of dirt also exists that might have blocked the oil hole.

Insufficient oil pressure due to a weak oil pump or engine wear in bearings or lifter bores. Excessive valve spring force.

Predator helped me with this onee, and explained to me that many times when a cam is changed, it can get a little noisey under the hood....maybe its your preload...

teh tick isnt to loud. i just dont remember hearing it before, when i started it today it sounded fine again, could of been my imagination, also i floored it for the first time today and it ran pretty good so hopfully i wont hear it again. either way this weekend im going to pull the valve covers off and check everything out, im pretty sure nothing is wrong, also im going to set the rockers to zero lash (i think thats what the valves being closed is called) and check to see if the pushrods are stiff or loose (to check teh lifters) also isnt there a special oil additive i could put in my oil to help clean out the lifters. plus i have 45 psi at idle (with a ported pump) so its not that they arent getting oil.
