How much Copper Spray on Gaskets?

Well, how much of this stuff do you use. A light coat once over, or several thick coats so you get a nice copper color? Never used it before. Thanks!

I used just enough cover the gasket, so the whole thing is copper looking, dont put so much on that it starts dripping but enought to cover both sides. GM MLS gaskets or Cometics?

Cometics, they say to install them dry, but everyone here seems to spray them down.

I installed mine dry. I did make sure the deck was spotless.

I installed them w/ copper spray, under the pressure they are put under it doesnt matter, but it seems to be an insurance policy in a way...do it to make sure that baby is sealed.

The thing is I might have to swap the stock heads back on for smog, so I don't want to deal with a sticky mess when that time comes around.

i sprayed my cometics, and after a few thousand miles i tore all down, and i noticed that the cometics started to eat into the heads, not good. my machine shop told me that its a common problem when people spray the cometics with copper spray, he said install dry, with a good flat surface.

I'm going to go with dry. If they leak I will take the heads off and spray them.

Sounds like the best bet if you have the patience and time to pull em off again if they leak. I have never had a problem with mine and I installed with a light coat of spray. And I've never heard of it eating away at the heads or block.

The cooper coat cam right off easliy when I removed my engine from my car with spun rod bearings. And was easy to clean off.

Not necessary, the GM MLS have sealant already installed as part of the gasket and are not prone to leaks.

Same here

I used copper spray and when I did a head and cam swap again

It took a simple wipe down with carb cleaner

That is the way I did mine with the permatex copper spray.Make sure she stays sealed up!
