Default Oil Pressure!!!!!!

Guys,

I just fired up my brand new 408....started right up!....sounds great!.....but no OIL PRESSURE! My oil pressure gauge is on "0"......I let it idle for approx 30 seconds and turned it off. Started it again for 30 seconds...no pressure...turned it off. What do I do now?......

You need to give us some background. Did you build it, did you put the pump etc. on, did you check the wire to the sending unit at the back of the manifold, etc.

First mistake was letting it run without oil pressure for any amount of time. Hopefully you didn't screw anything up. You should have disconnected the coil packs and pulled the fuel pump fuse and cranked it over a bit to get oil pressure before you started it. However, I would get an external gauge to figure out what is going on there. Are you sure you didn't break the oil pressure sensor when taking the intake manifold on/off?

Guys,

Yes, I had my machine shop put the short block together...I did everything else, including the oil pump, pickup, accys, etc... THe oil pressure sending unit is brand new ( I broke the original) and its connected fine. If a galley plug wasn't installed wouldn't I see a leak?...nothing has leaked at this point.

No, if the oil galley plugs weren't installed, the oil just cycles back into the pan instead of going to the lifters, mains, and oil pressure sending unit. To check the front oil galley plug, you can just take off the front cover to see if it's installed. To see if the rear oil galley plug is installed, you can take out the brass plug located right above the oil filter in the block, then you can look up into the galley and see a white plastic plug.
