Polishing Spring Ends?

I’m getting ready to change my stock springs with Comp Cams 918’s. I was reading David Vizard’s book on cams and valvetrains and in it he talks about polishing the ends of the springs and rounding the spring tail ends. Is this a common practice?

i wouldnt do anything to any of the new high tech valve springs that are made today,there is no reason too.How old is this book and what kind of valve springs is he talking about??

Check for burrs, I think you will find the way the ends are ground to get a consistent height they won't need any de-burring. I have seen this in his book as well.

High end Nascar type springs have the end completely deburred. It is very time comsuming and extreme care must be taken not to damage the spring. Any nick or burr unintentionally put on a spring cannot be removed without completing damaging the spring. For 95% of the racin applications this is not needed. A high quality spring from a reputable source will not need any additional work done to the spring.
