Burning Valves?

my friend wanted me to get on and ask a ? for him and to tell the truth i dont know the answer myself. but he has a 99 trans am and currently has no muffler and his cats have become clogged. he was wondering if he was to remove the cats and replace them with test pipes would he burn up his valves? and if so how fast?

thanks for all your info in advance and you can bad mouth him all you want and i will relay it lol

No he will not burn up his valves.

I don't understand. How would removing cats affect your valves?

Burnt valves occour when the small bit of reversion lets the cold outside air come back in and hit the hot exhaust valve. The thermal shock is known as burning the valve, It causes it to warp and it no longer seats correctly. This wont happen just by removing cats. Infact plenty of people run open headers without issues. IMO exhaust gasses wont revert more than a foot or so, so forty some odd inches should be plenty safe.
