Default ARP head bolt questions

Howdy all,

Search isn't turning too much info up on these, so I had to post. I bought ARP 6-point head bolts for my heads, and I see a few things that don't seem to be addressed by the information available to me.

1) I see that you're supposed to torque down and loosen the bolts 5 times before using them.
a - Do you all agree this is necessary?
b - Do you have to lubricate with anything in particular when doing this?
c - Do you have to go through the passes when doing this, or can you simply torque them all the way down and then loosen them?
d - Any more info you can offer on this?

2) I'm reading that you can use motor oil or an ARP lubricant and that the ARP stuff is recommended.
a - Can this ARP stuff be found anywhere other than online? I just got everything in to put the car back together, and I'm really not keen on waiting again for a $6 bottle of thread lubricant to come in.
b - Does anyone know what the part number for the ARP lubricant is?
c - What are the torque specs when using motor oil and when using ARP lubricant?
d - What kind of motor oil should be used?

Thanks in advance everyone.

1a. Yes
1b. Yes, ARP lube
1c. Torque them down in sequence to 30/40/65/final..... back off just enough 1/4 turn or so... then retorque at final in sequence.

2. Yes, but why? ARP moly should come with bolts or studs. It goes a long way.
2a. Any performance shop should have it (whether is be circle track, sport compact, hot rod, etc)...... go get some.
2b. Not offhand, sorry.
2c. Around 25-30% more.
2d. Straight 30wt.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by the torque sequence. When I'm torquing down the first five times to "break in" the bolts, do I have to do that entire sequence every time? Do I just back off 1/4 every time and then do the final torque spec again? Do I have to follow the correct torque pattern, or does it not matter? I'm assuming I can do all this with the head on the engine but no gasket and then put the gasket in place after I'm done breaking the bolts in?

The bolts may have come with the lube. I don't remember seeing it, but I didn't look very hard. I didn't read about it until today, and I'm not at home. Hopefully, I have it.

Thanks for the reply.

u have to do them all, so, you might as well do them in sequence so it crushes the gasket evenly and correctly.
