Default Advice for Newbie..

I have an '01 C5. Current mods are Borla straight pipes & Blackwing cold air. I would like to achieve ~420 RWHP without sacraficing drivability or milage too much. Planned winter project includes long tube headers, heads & cam.

I woul dprefer not to lose too much grunt on the bottom end, but I understand that I will likely lose some. I dont mind if the idle is a bit on the lumpy side, but it will need to idle.

I have several questions:

Is this level of performance achievable without FI or spray?
What heads would you suggest?
What cam ?
How high can I go with the compression / chamber size?
Will I still be able to pass the Illinois emmissions tests?

Thanks in advance for you help!

Q: Is this level of performance achievable without FI or spray?
A: This is most definitely achievable without FI or spray.

Q: What heads would you suggest?
A: You wouldn't need to do a huge jump in heads to acquire 420HP. New Z06 heads would do.

Q: What cam ?
A: You'll have to do your research on a cam selection. Do a search and you'll find some great info on the topic.

Q: How high can I go with the compression / chamber size?
A: You'll want somebody more experienced than myself to answer this.

Q: Will I still be able to pass the Illinois emmissions tests?
A: Probably not unless you have an AWESOME tuner or somebody that you know that can pass you.
