Oil Consumption !!!

Oil Consumption !!! Just finished putting the first 1k on my 54k 2000 WS6 A4, and it used about a half quart of M1 5w30. Is this common, if so any ideas on how to make it stop??? Different brand or weight???

At 54,000 miles, if its stock, it shouldn't burn that much in 1,000 miles unless something internally is wrong, not just the wrong oil type. Rings, bad valve seals in the heads, etc.

No dark smoke at any speed. If it was blowing dark smoke that would mean it's too rich, wouldn't it?? I always see blue smoke blowing out of oil burners.
I'm going to try M1 5W40, hopefully that will slow it down...
