Default pulling old cam

I'm swapping cams on my ws6 right now, I have it torn down I'm getting ready to pull the old cam, I've heard several methods to keep the lifters up, but my question is if I get brave and just spin it a few times and hope friction holds them up what are the consequences if one of the lifters falls back down?

Pull the head off of whatever side it came out of, and you'll have to drop the K member and pull the oil pan to get the lifter. Basically pull the motor at that point. Not worth the trouble when you can spend 5 bucks on some 5/16 dowls and be safe.
