I am looking into going LS6 with my '02 and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for a street/strip setup without sacrificing too much gas mileage. I have a LT1 but am new to the LS1's. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys

I am looking to get decent gains and I am not worried about how much it costs (getting another job just for the car). The current dyno and tune are in my sig I would like to be putting around 400-450 to the wheels.
I have a ls6 in my SS, there awsome motors. Last time I dynoed it made 407 rwhp and runs 11.8 @ 119.7mph. Probally going to dyno in the next week or so again. I'm changeing from macs to kooks and I want to see what the difference is plus since the 407 rwhp I added mezeir, bigger tb & intake, roller rockers and ported the ball flanges on the macs. I'm hoping for 420 ish from a stock ls6 all that and when I drove it to Arlanta 4 weeks ago it got 28.5 mpg. Hope this helps.
heads & cam will get you there but will cost some $$
You need the heads, cam, chromemoly pushrods, some good valve springs and possibly titanium retainers. You alreadys have most the boltons available so that is covered(important). But you should look into getting some headers with any cam IMO...long tubes would be optimal...and dont believe what they say about ground clearance with LTs...Im not complaning...
Plus you'd need new head gaskets and bolts, timing cover gasket, water pump gasket, a new crank bolt(Im probably forgetting something..) and LS6 oil pump isnt a bad idea... Then you have to tune it, or have someone tune it.
Plus you need a few tools you may or may not have like:
big breaker bar & a certain size socket for the crank bolt, I forget which...AND a piece of metal tubing/pipe about 2" in diameter to slip over the breaker bar to increase leverage to break the crank bolt loose...it's really on there...
Pulley remover
preferably cam swap tools which hold the lifters up while you swap cam.(can be made for like $5 if you have the tools and the time to run to home depot)
valve spring tool(Larry on Camaroz28.com made'em and sold'em for like $40 when I did my swap)
Then you gotta worry about holding all that power without breaking anything..but if you dont plan on running slicks or drag radials then you are pretty much cool if you watch yourself and just dont do anything stupid..
But it will all be worth it...I dont regret one cent spent on my car, and intend to spend even more lol. Once you get a little seat time it's all worth it
Hope that helps and questions are welcome...
EDIT: BTW 400+ miles to a tank every time with an M6 on the car in sig on the frwy when the right foot takes it a little easy...
City is more like 18mpg...could be better if I drove like a granny but naww
Also, that is on 93 octane with an awesome tune, and no cats or AIR/EGR if you didnt notice..
aaaand....I hear the underdrive pulley help mileage(and HP of course)...my next mod probably
