While putting in my TR224 cam, I got to the part where I disconnected the two lines going from the power steering pump to the main radiator hose. I'm guessing these two lines are for my power steering cooler. As I disconnected the two small hoses off the radiator hose, a mixture of coolant and power steering fluid oozed out. Is this normal? Is my power steering pump about to go?

I'm not sure what part of that isn't supposed to be happening. You removed the lines from the power steering cooler, right? So fluid came out.

 

Doesn't the PS cooler shoot coolant through the pump? A mix of oil and coolant came out of the hoses that connect from the radiator to the pump. Would this mean that there might be some PS fluid running through the cooling system? This is my first cam swap, so I'm not too familiar with what may happen.

 

There is no need to disconnect those lines on a cam swap.

 

Yeah, why did you disconnect it in the first place and what does coolant mixed with P.S. fluid look like anyway? Are you sure you saw what you think you saw? You might want to research this project a little further before proceding any further to guarantee you don't observe any more unexplainable strange phenomena.

 

You guys are right, I now see that I shouldn't have disconnected these lines . I had a clear bucket full of coolant below the engine so stuff could drip down. Once I disconnected the two PS hoses, the drips coming from them dripped into the bucket, and it looked like the oil and water mix, because they don't mix, so it was apparent that there was some kind of oil in those lines...

But it sounds like I'm making too big of a deal here.....
