car noise heard from out side?

I have a 2000 SS black camaro 6-speed and I started hearing a clanking like ticking sound coming from the out side even after the car is warmed up, what could this be? I work at pepboys and one of the other drivers there that deliver parts told me it might be my lifter? what is that and how much does it cost my car has almost 93,000 miles on her!

Lifters ride on the cam and push(lift) the pushrod to open the valve. I think a new set of gmhp lifters is about $100 from a sponsor here (SDPC). 'Gotta take the heads off to get to 'em...

I know it sounds stupid, but make sure all your spark plugs are tight. I had this same noise coming from the drivers side after #7 somehow ended up working itself loose.
