The more your engine can breath ie cam and heads the more you benefit from the ported TB.

Yeah, I think the real benefits of a ported TB won’t show till the heads/cam level. Just like the LS6 intake really shines once you’ve got heads/cam.

Definately worth it if you can do it yourself. I ported mine in my garage in about 30 minutes. I am not good at "feeling" mods, but it's common knowledge that opening up the passge for air is going to produce more power.

It does work, so more importantly now is a procedure or write-up to do this. <img src="images/icons/smile.gif" border="0">

Every little bit helps.

I ported mine and couldn't tell a difference, but I have a lot of other things going already.

I've read of too many problems with it. I'd like to do back to back comparisons, switching one out with a friend and be able to run a wide band on it.

Then, and only then if it worked, would I be convinced.

I ported my TB and did the Fernco mod at the same time, and noticed a difference.

We picked up 5rwhp/4rwtq peak and up to 8rwhp in the midrange with a ported TB on a cam only car.

OK people, how do you port your TB? What sections should I look to remove material from? Details?

pinging, too lean at WOT
buy auto tap -- should have one anyway though
MAF-T
fluctuating A/F at WOT from off-idle to shut down
hard to tune
trims fluctuating greatly to adjust.

you can't just stick a ported this or that on the car and expect it to produce + results. you have to look at the whole package. same thing we had to do back in the LT1 days. was a 58TB ever too much for your mods? yes, 1050 mono-blade? yes.

put my 58 on the car before i had the 396 done. it was too much for a hot-cammed/header/bolt on car. ran awful.

Be aware is all Im asking of you. It is a terrible thing to make changes and have nothing more than bought problems. make changes on data. Hell, borrow one and see what it does.

Hope this adds some perspective.

Maybe someone could do a write up on before and after porting the TB. Dynoing and using autotap.
