Port and polish heads?
The first and last time I port and polished heads was on a set of 1969 383 magnum heads for my 74 Charger. I now am thinking of doing it to my LS1 heads. Anyone have good links to information for a step by step how to. When I did them back then they worked great but I have a little more invested into this ride. I know I can never get the results of MTI but that is not the point as much as doing the work myself. Thanks for the help.

Re: Port and polish heads?
I am porting a set of bare castings over the winter holidays. This will be the first set of aluminum heads that I have ported too. I recommend the book by David Vizard, "How to build & modify chevrolet small-block v-8 cylinder heads." Much of the same principles apply to the LS1 heads. My objectives are to improve low lift flow by blending the bowls to the seats, doing a really good valve job, profiling the valves, cleaning up the port runners and chamber. There is a lot of casting flash in the ports and bowls that can be cleaned up without hogging them out and decreasing velocity. I am no expert, though. Just want to do it myself and see what happens.

be carefule with what you do the LS1 is not a normal small block, it has it's own specific mods that need to be done to that port, to preserve the velocity index

Re: Port and polish heads?
Thanks for the information on the book (Amazon.com here I come). Also thanks for the warning about changing things to much. As most of my projects I will study all the information that I can for a few months or more then deiced if I really can do want I want to do. Anybody else have anymore opinions or book recommendations?
By the way this board looks to be yet another great place for information. Can't go wrong when you have knowledgeable people such as these moderators that are willing to give there time to help others. <img src="graemlins/burnout.gif" border="0" alt="[Burnout]" />

I have my sig up and running now. I hope to see a 10-15 hp gain from the mild porting/valve work. If I see 20, I'll have a very merry holiday season! I will post results either way it works out.
