I broke the one I tried..... Took about 3 seconds to snap it like a twig.

I knew about the plug, but forgot about it at 2am and cracked the pilot bearing in half to remove it (don't ask ). Then I realized that I punched out the plug (and smashed it) when I did that. So, I ordered two of them at the dealer (which took 2 days to arrive) and I have a spare in my toolbox (which will assure that I'll never need another one). I've been doing this stuff for a long time, but it only takes a second to make a mistake like that.

Glad you saved the motor.

I just took it for a test drive and all is good. I still need an intercooler pump and a water pump to put on the 95. I have been so pre-occupied fixing up this trans am that I haven't had time to work on it much. Now that it seems to be running okay I hope to get my focus on the camaro but then again I have all winter to put a ffew waterpumps on. It doesn't take a whole lot to clog that pickup, I would guess a few pieces did it. I had to pull some more paper out of the windage tray.

how did paper get to the pick up thru the crank ? it's gun drilled but isnt exposed to oil system

The crank is hollow with a freeze plug.

The paper went through the crank and dropped into the oil pan which got sucked up into the pickup.

imagine if you will, the number 8 . The bottom of the "8" sticks out and away from the top of the "8".........oh........ 5" or so, or, lets just say that it is 7" thick and 5"(?) round. In the center of THAT, there is a hole, the size of the outter pilot bearing?? part 2, okay, now, the top part of the "8" is the counter weight where the rest of the crank goes on its merry way sort of like this rear seal end > -I_I-

Good to see the save man! I've done the same thing and I should have known better if I would have read up on it. I was told not to re-install the same plug so I got one from dealership. I had a hard time finding the depth for the plug though. How did you find it?

I had this article search found off google.

I took a snap mic to the bore and found after the decrease in diameter it was all the same. I took the old plug and pounded the old convex shape out of it to increase the diameter again then re-installed it with some RTV. I highly doubt the depth of the plug is critical but must be enough to clear the tip of the input shaft. The LS7 clutch is grabbing pretty good so I don't suspect theres any oil on the flywheel. If the plug somehow leaks does it trash the clutch completely? Why didnt GM put a NPT fitting on this?
