Default Break in..

So my motor is now running again, and I was wondering about break in. I know that is needs to be broken in properly, but what I was wondering was about the cutout. Should that remained closed for, 1000 miles or longer? Is that going to affect how the rings? Should break in be done with both it open and closed?

Warm it up fully, and do some WOT runs, letting the engine brake back down. Easiest to do with the M6. That will seat the rings much faster than a low RPM part throttle break in over 1000 miles, which may never seat them properly at all.

The whole "break in" thing is by way of the Dodo ever since roller cams were introduced. The 1000 mile break in procedure was for the old flat tappet camshafts. A roller cam engine requires very little break in time (20 miles or so). The roller components require no break in time, the bearings break in almost imediately, and the modern rings (tapered) are seated, for the most part after a few whacks of the throttle.

I used a 2 step break in process.

Step 1 - Run it on the Dyno and tune

Step 2 - The water box at the strip, Nice smokey burnout and then stage.

At this point I considered the engine broken in and ran the **** out of it.
