Default Oil question w/ cam break in.

Ok well, my car has some Valvoline synthetic in it that probably has ~500 miles on it. It has been sitting a couple months in storage. I am going to be installing a cam this weekend and it seems like it would be a waste for me to empty out this oil, then put new oil in for the break in (100 miles or whatever), then put more new oil in.

I was wondering, would it be ok to break in the cam with the oil that is already in it?

I was thinking, break the cam in for 100 miles with the oil already in it and then change it for some fresh stuff.

My other option would be to empty this oil into a container, break the cam in, and put the synthetic back in.

I just feel guilty dumping out good oil that still has life on it especially since ive only used it for a few weeks. I do realize that the cam probably does need a change once the cam has been broken in.

no break in required for LSx cams. you need to heat cylcle the new valve springs though

Keep the oil in it and after a couple of hundred miles change it out and you should be all set

Yeah man just run the oil you have in it until its time for a change really. I would just run that oil for 1k or so after the cam install and then change it out. I kept M1 in mine when I did a swap, if its good enough for factory fill in the vette's, its good enough for my 5.3!

Same as above, that's what I did. Save money when you can!

The only other reason i would change it is if there was a chance you had gotten coolant in the oil during the swap, otherwise what has been said above.
