Default Cam ????

hey guys, i need alot of help on this. i bought a cam for my truck, here is everything i bought:
1. Crane Cam 216/228 duration & .454/.480 lift
2. Crane Cam chromemoly pushrods
3. Crane Cam valve springs & retainers
4. Crane Cam lifters
5. Crane Cam valve locks
6. Crane Cam timing chain
7. Gaskets for cam change

ok well i bought all this **** and it ended up being $522. well my dad said it would mess my engine up because it has to many miles on it, he said i would crack the block and throw a valve or make a valve go through a lobe, and i was like wtf?! he also said that a 350 was a big block. again, wtf? so can some of you guys explain what putting a new cam in my truck would do. please

im still kinda new at this whole thing but....

if you're replacing your whole valvetrain, how do the amount of miles on the rest of the motor have anything to do with it? thats why you replace the valvetrain, to support the cam. and those parts have 00000 miles on them

The only trouble you'd have is from your cam bearings that are already worn in a certain pattern. Putting a new cam in a high mileage engine is supposedly a bad idea because you can spin a cam bearing. I think if you let the cam wear to the pattern of the bearings before you go crazy with it you should be ok though. If it was me I'd put it in as long as it was under 100,000 miles. Over 100,000 miles I'd just take the opurtunity to rebuild it to support future mods.
