Default '01s have 5.3 cam? What?

I was just reading in Chevy High Tech Performance. The say that the 2001 cars recieved a "high flow intake" ( or the LS6 intake  ). But they claim that it flows so well that GM had to install the 5.3 truck cam to keep the power levels in check. What the heck? I thought the '01 and '02 cars had LS6 cams?

The 01/02 cars have the 6.0l cam, not the 5.3l.

Here's where the confusion came from:

In 2000 the 5.3L got the 6.0L cam. I think the 6.0L engine may have changed since then as well. The original 1999 5.3L cam was a dog. Check part #s to be certain.

There would more than likely be a power increase, but if your going to go through the hassle of swapping cam's then it's easier to go big the first time then get 10hp out of a stock 98-00 cam and then want to change it.

The 5.3L Trucks and SUVs didn't get the 6.0L cam until 2001...the same year the F-Bodies got it. The 6.0L cam has a 114 LSA and is much torqier than the older F-body cam, even though it has a little less lift and duration.

It'll still be pretty useless IMO. I'll give the stock cam out of my '98 T/A, but you'll still have all of the labor and new hardware. I'd go with one of the mild aftermarket cams IMO. (212/218, etc.) If you go ahead with the swap, it will definitely be interesting to see the gains, though.
I was told that the specs on the '01+ cam in the f-body is 197/198, .478"/.478", 115 LSA. Take that with a grain of salt, though.

I read several places that is was 196/198, everything else the same...1 deg. wont make any difference. The 98-00 cam is something like 202/210 .496/.496 116.5LSA. The 01-02s cams don't breathe as well at high rpms, but they make more torque at lower rpms. The newer cars probably produce slightly less peak hp, even though GM said the power went up by 5.

So to "detune" the cars they used a milder cam from the truck. So would it be correct to say that putting in an 00 LS1 cam into an 01 or 02 car would give it a power increase???

I agree with Trevor here. There is no sense in the labor for such a small gain.. I went with a mild 218/218 .563 Comp cam in the A4 and heading for 400hp in my '99Z28.
