'01s have 5.3 cam? What?
In 2000 the 5.3L got the 6.0L cam. I think the 6.0L engine may have changed since then as well. The original 1999 5.3L cam was a dog. Check part #s to be certain.

There would more than likely be a power increase, but if your going to go through the hassle of swapping cam's then it's easier to go big the first time then get 10hp out of a stock 98-00 cam and then want to change it.

It'll still be pretty useless IMO. I'll give the stock cam out of my '98 T/A, but you'll still have all of the labor and new hardware. I'd go with one of the mild aftermarket cams IMO. (212/218, etc.) If you go ahead with the swap, it will definitely be interesting to see the gains, though.
I was told that the specs on the '01+ cam in the f-body is 197/198, .478"/.478", 115 LSA. Take that with a grain of salt, though.

I read several places that is was 196/198, everything else the same...1 deg. wont make any difference. The 98-00 cam is something like 202/210 .496/.496 116.5LSA. The 01-02s cams don't breathe as well at high rpms, but they make more torque at lower rpms. The newer cars probably produce slightly less peak hp, even though GM said the power went up by 5.
