Valve guide istalled height ?
I need new guides installed in my MTI stage II heads. The factory service manual gives a spec of 0.682 in from the spring seat surface but the bronze guides that were installed by MTI are at 0.550 in. Is there a reason the guides are installed almost an 1/8" lower? I was thinking this was done to prevent the retainer from hitting the guide on high lift cams. Im using a Hammer Cam with 0.566 lift, which I know can be used with stock heads so I would think it is OK to install the new guides at thr factory 0.682 spec.
My Machinist has held up installing the guides untill I get back to him so a expedited response from someone would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Eric

Good question... My GTP heads have stock guides in them. Supposedly bronze guides do not hold up as well on the street, so Craig keeps the stock guides in place as long as they aren't worn. As far as I know, mine have not been cut down any, and I've had as large as a .568 lift cam installed before. A "close to .600 lift" cam is going in shortly, hopefully with no clearance problems.
