The easiest way to install the pump is to use an old crank sprocket. Get it on the old one, slide it on the crank, line it up, push it on the new sprocket. Takes less than 2 min.

Nice... I did not think of that one.

Thanks for the tip.

Since i had to insall the crank gear it self, i slightly bent the edges to it, so i had to very lightly sand them down... It slipped right in after that

update, spent a lil time under the trans am tonight ... got pissed off ... found about 8-9 10 mm bolts ... took front two out all the way ... loosened next two a bunch ... and then as i went back i didn't loosen them as much and the backs are just barley loose ... i used a crow bar and lightly tried to pull down the oil pan to get the 1 to 1.5 inch clearance and it just wouldn't drop ... it would move but not stay down ... what am i doing wrong??? it just doesn't seem possible to get the oil pump on without getting the pan down for more clearance on that pick-up tube bolt ...

getting really frustrated with why i even changed the oil pump anyway

Make sure your getting all the oil pan bolts, as well as the two bolts on the transmission bell housing, they thread toward the front of the car instead of up like the rest of the oil pan bolts. Alot of people forget those.
I think they're 13mm but it could be different on your car.
You'll remove them completely to get the clearance you need.

okay thanks john ... yeah i was looking at those and wondering if they would be needed to take off .... those were questionable for me

also if i do take those off ALL THE WAY ... and just loosen the rest ... will it drop enough for me to do this??? is this a smart thing to do without draining all the oil out? i have yet to do that .... didn't think it was needed to drain

I did it, its in the ls1howto writeup.
You'll definately spill some oil so have a pan ready.
I was worried about having low pressure from removing the oil pump, and didn't want to compound things by doing a whole oil/filter swap at the same time, so I havn't drained the pan.
I might end up draining it but leaving the filter on, not sure if that will make a difference or not

I read, when putting stuff back on,
Thread all the oil pan bolts hand tight or so to seat the pan,
Then torque down the bell housing bolts to center and align the pan before you torque down the rest of the oil pan bolts.

That's what i've read on here anyway.
goodluck.

I by no means have the experience to "recommend" anything, but I prob will drain it, just cause its been a while since my last change.

Drain the oil after your cam swap. Run the car a little bit then change it. Chances are, it got a lot of gunk in it during the swap.

Just dont be retarded with it. Its not like you have to use it 100% of the time. Just a mere 75 shot is more than you will gain with your much more expensive cam swap. Dont forget, you have to get a tune too.
