patriot ls6 stage II vs dart 225ls1

traying to decide between the patriot ls6 stage II and the dart 225ls1.both with 2.05 int valves.running 230-232 at .050 .591-.595 at 114ls.ls6 intake. 346cid, looking to get 450rwhp.

SS4Matt 11-18-2006 10:40 PM

well, i have an LS6 intake, the Patriots with the 2.055 ferrea intake valves, i have a cam with more duration and a bit more lift then the one you specified and all the supporting bolt ons, through an M6 on my friends mustang dyno i put down 430ish to the tire.

so i think your 450 to the tire is a bit out of reach with the patriots, unless you're using a dynojet/egobooster

i'm not sure how the Darts stack up against the patriots,

Evans752 11-18-2006 11:13 PM

I vote Darts but on stock cubic inch motor the 225 might be to much.

1997bird 11-19-2006 02:28 PM

The Dart heads will probably have better port velocity than the Patriots. The CNC LS6 heads from GM are 243 cc intake runner heads. I would imagine the Patriot heads are pretty close to the same. I wouldn't use either head myself, I would use a set of ET Performance 225 cc heads. My cousin's vette has made 445 rwhp and 406 rwtq SAE corrected on a dynojet 248C. The tuning is on hiatous due to an electrical problem on the dyno(this was a week after the last dyno pull on the vette). Right now the ECM is about 80% tuned for the combo.
- FAST 90mm intake with ported 90mm LS2 TB
- 302 adv. dur. intk/exh 234 @ .050 112* LSA with 108* int centerline .578" lift
- new timing chain on stock 93,000 mile short block
- Jesel SS series shaft mount rockers 1.7 ratio
- MSD coil's
- 36 lb/hr injectors
- SLP 85 mm MAF

Stock ls6 heads are 213cc intake runner. 243 is the casting # on the heads. The patriot heads are honed out to a 227cc intake runner. The TSP ones were hogged out to something like 247cc.

I would go with AFR 205's. If not that patriot's. I would avoid the Darts.

The TSP are now 230cc ports...For the money TSP or Patriots. The out of the box Darts dont flow very well...

patriot ls6 stage II vs dart 225ls1

ss4matt,what are the specs on your cam,how does it idle and manufactor?

Tom@SpeedInc 11-19-2006 03:24 PM

I'm running set of Dart 225 heads on my motor, the valvetrain is decent, stainless valves (Ferrera?) Titanium retainers and PSI valve springs. If only Dart CNC ported the heads? The flow numbers of Dart 225 heads are on par with AFR 205 heads.

Patriot offers good valvetrain (dual springs titanium retainers), CNC ported and you can order them milled down to 58cc or larger 72cc chamber; and every size between.

Dart really needs, dual springs and CNC chamber then they would be more competitive with patriot and rest of offerings, my .02. Most distributors normally have Dart heads in stock, big plus.

mullenh 11-19-2006 07:55 PM

doesn't dart have a 205 head for stock diplacement?

The original TSP 243' s were 237 but there new version is 230. The new TSP's with the comp valve job seem to be making nice numbers. I went with the 205 AFR's and I'm happy with them, but if you're on a budget I would go with the TSP 243 and make sure your DCR is in the right range.

Get the dart 225s. the dart 205s are what I have and for later upgrades they are limiting me. I personally put down 452 rwhp and 423 rwtq with bolt-ons, dart 205s and a futral f14 cam.

Our runner volume is 227 +/-. This is one of the smallest 243 ported runners available. Our stage II heads are built with only the best products available, Patriot Gold springs, ti retainers, machined Super 7 locks, Ferrea valves, etc. These heads will perform very well for you. Yes, there might be a short wait for them, but the wait is well worth it.

on AFRs website it says that the 225s are ideal for 369 cid or greater or FI...shouldn't he stick with something 'smaller' like the 205s?

just curious, it's why i made the choice for the Stage II Patriots (not LS6)

Both heads flow about the same. But the Darts are a little bit smaller intake runner's(225 vs 227) giving them a little better port velocity. They also have better potential for later upgrades(non ported VS ported) and are supposed the have a lot of material left for porting. I don't want it to appear that I am saying that the Patriot heads are no good. But they have a limited amount of material left to them to work with for later upgrades. After looking at Patriot's web site, it would be hard to beat their Christmas special.

As for useing the AFR heads their 205's out flow both heads. So yes this would be a better option if you don't mind paying more money and waiting 3 month's for a set(unless you found a set on the shelf). But if your going to pay that much money I would use a set of ET Performance's 225 cc heads. With the ETP heads the angle has been rotated to 11 degree's rather than 15 degree's. By doing this your port velocity is greater on the 225 vs a 205 head because the runner is narrower and longer. One of the other advatages is better air flow number's!

Go with the PRC Stage 2.5 5.3L heads for 1199.99 assembled with the PRC double springkit. Smaller runner than either head mentioned above, should be your best bet getting to 450rwhp!!

Let me know if you need any more info or can help out in any way!

Thanks,
Zach

I thought that you 2.5 PRC head was 238cc intake runners. At least that is what my GM High Tech mag showed. I do like what you did with the heads! I plan on useing them on a customer of mine's motor. Just waiting for a check from him!

chriswtx 11-20-2006 11:46 AM

The 2.5 LS6 heads are now 230cc...

Zach@Texas-Speed 11-20-2006 11:49 AM

The Stage 2.5 5.3L heads mentioned above are 220cc runner :) :)

lt1formula2000 11-21-2006 02:33 PM

hey zack what do the 2.5 5.3L heads flow

never mind I my lazy actually did something and looked it up on your site
