Correct orientation for timing seal

Default Correct orientation for timing seal

I am doin a cam swap and I just punched the stock seal out of the timing cover. I have the gm replacement part, how do i Know which side is front and back, if anyone has any pictures, i would really appreciate it.

The open side of the seal goes towards the engine

That is still a bit confusing, can you clarify? You mean that it should taper to a close towards the front of the car, correct?

The "lip" has to act as a wiper to keep oil inside of the cover. It should be obvious to the most casual observer which way the lip should face. When installed correctly the crank pulley hub will slide smoothly across the face of the seal(lip) so that the oil is contained inside of the cover. If you were to install it backwards you would have to FORCE the seal to turn in a manner that it isn't designed to go and it should be clear to you that the hub slides in easily in one direction only, but when you turn the seal the wrong way the hub forces the lip of the seal backwards over on itself.
