Default ?'s about heads

ok i am new to ls1's, i read everywhere abut guys puttin 6.0L and 5.3L heads, now do people buy the 6.0 heads and have them ported or can you just put them on? and will they wprk good with ls6 cam? which are better, 6.0 or 5.3? what are the specs on both?

Just port the heads that are on there right now. They work AWESOME! The meager gain you are going to get from the 5.3 or 6.0's are not worth it in most setups.

The 5.3 head is bascially the same as the 5.7 LS1 head, however it is cast with smaller combustion chambers.

The 2001+ LQ9 6.0 liter head is identical to the LS6 head, except it is cast with larger combustion chambers. An ideal head for forced induction.

The LS6 head is cast with some features that can not be reproduced in porting a LS1 head. Thus some slight flow and power gains. However the cost of using and LS6 cast head, may be more useful to put your money elsewhere and stay with an LS1 or 4.8/5.3 head.
