Default Head Install complete

Well, after four gruelilng days of battling this task myself, I finally got the LS6 heads installed along with replacing the lifters. It started right up with no issues. The only thing now is that there is a small amount of coolant leaking from the damn front colant pipes going from head to head. Has anyone else ran into this problem and can it be fixed easily. I drove it home from my friends house (22 mi) and it has seem to stop a little. Im wondering if it will just plug itself up on its own in a couple of day. Well, at least the hard part is over...... It feels pretty damn good. I also replaced my motor mounts, they were shot. They just fell out of the clam shell......

EDIT: Is it normal for it to be smoking a little bit at idle. After I drive it there is no smoke?? I think I need to retune it.

Congrats!! You can try some High Temp silicone sealant (Think it's in a black tube). That should help keep the leak under control. I know some of the coolant tubes had some sort of washer type gasket(At least my 98 did), the new one that replaced it had a rubber gasket.

Did you use the gaskets, and were they put on the correct way for the water pipe? Torqued down properly?

I reused the gaskets from the other heads and I torqued them down pretty good. I will see how it goes in the next couple of days. I will probably just RTV it.

I figured out why it was leaking coolant. My dumb *** forgot to put the washer with the little gasket on it. I thought I had. They were still on the old heads. Well that was a quick fix and now the car is going strong!!!!

Interesting setup you have, I would be interested to see a dyno graph. How much HP are you expecting?

Well after the initial start up, it's not uncommon to see smoke in the engine bay, but if it's coming out the back at idle, that's not good. Did you use a thread sealer/lock on the rocker bolts?? Most CNC'd LSx heads take away so much material that the rocker bolts are exposed in the intake runner. If you don't use a thread sealer you'll get oil that'll come into the motor from these points. This can lead to detonation etc. Car sounds good.. Not running around with open headers are ya?

These heads were not ported so the rockers arent an issue. I am not running open headers anymore. I just did that to have a little clip of it. Im thinking it might be that it needs a tune also. It is wasting a little more gas than usual. I just dont want this to become a big issue with my DD.

I hope to get as close to 400rwhp as I can. I will be happy with that.
