Default Motor went BOOM! what are my options?

Well, kinda... there are pieces of my piston in my muffler tips.

Anyway, i'm looking at my options here.

I'm considering an Iron block, would that throw my z06 off alot as far as weight?

Should i go with an LS2? LS1/6?

Looking to have a good solid amount of power, preferably around 450+ on 243 heads
Something thats going to be very reliable and can take some abuse, yet still drive across country.

What do you guys think? Big displacement? or what?

I've heard that the Iron blocks are hardly noticeable in F-bodies, but I'd imagine you would feel it more in a Z06.

If I were you, I'd look in to the 402 LS2 strokers. They really aren't much more than the Iron blocks, and if I had a Z06 I'd go for the reduced weight.

I'll do that, i autocross, no dragracing for me. I'm thinking i should stick with an LS1 LS6 so i don't have to change flywheels (i have mclead twin disc clutch and aluminum flywheel) I might just do a 383 LS6. I'm not sure, i wanted to do an LS2 based motor, but i dont know how much is going to have to be changed over not familiar with the conversion

If you do go the 383 route with a ls1 or ls6 you will have to have it re-sleeved as anything over a .010 bore will not be good on stock sleeves.

Would i be better off to re-sleeve my current LS6 block or buy one from say Texas-Speed?

I'd probably do a 402, i just dont know what goes into a conversion from LS1/6 --> LS2

My block right now...

I think (hope) this can be fixed.

Damn you really did some damage and wont be able to use much out of that block at all. I would just do a 402 if i was you to reach that power range you desire and wont take alot to make that power on a 402.

Man that's some serious damage !! That block looks pretty far gone for re-sleeving. If you are doing autocross and considering re-sleeving a block, I would look at a stock stroke/ big bore combo to get the 396-400". That would handle the sustained high revs better than the longer stroke.

iron blocks are 100 lbs more and hundreds less.

if you are going to build another motor i think its stupid to go with anything under a 4.00 inch bore.

Man what the hell happened to your car? You over rev of what? As for the new SB I dont think you will be dissapointed with the 402 ls2 based stroker, but you could always up the ante and go with one of the new SDPC 427 short blocks or say the L92 416 offered by one of the sponsors.

Looks like all the pistons on that side are oiled down too.

I was under the impression that the strokers were internally balanced, and you could use your existing flywheel?

that is one thing i want to do... use my existing flywheel, i have alot of money in it.

I'm seriously thinking about a fully forged 346, just for simplicity. But.. with a cam. I'd do a 6.0 liter but i am not sure about the wiring things up on it.

there is no wiring things up... its all plug and play, you reuse all your old sensors.

why would you do a forged 346 unless you are limited by some sanctioning body? the diffrence in hp that a 408 would make compared to a 346 would be insane

even if i was limited, id go with a bigger bore, smaller stroke

btw stock cranks are good to about 1500 hp

Sorry to see it had that much damage

We have several different strokers in stock & ready to go. I think your probably next day shipping from us...

Call Jon or Zach, they can tell you what we have in stock & give you some good pricing on them.

If you send me some additional pics of the heads I'll see if I can fix them up for you. I have a cnc chamber that will clean up most of that chamber damage..

I've got the passengerside off but i can't figure out how to get that damn altenator bracket off the driver side. to get the head out, although its unbolted, they both i think are going to be fine, the passenger side one does need a little bit of work. The driverside from what i could tell, looked like it was ok. May see about having some larger valves put in them, since i'm going to have to replace some valves anyway.
