Default can someone explain this?

I was just at installuniversity.com looking around and i looked at the valve cover painting mod thingy. I always knew the setup of the motor and everything but a question came across my mind. Obviously, as me and everyone know the rockers and valve springs are right there under the valve covers. Now, with the oil filler cap right on the valve covers, when you fill your car with oil, i dont get where it goes. Does it all fill up around your springs or what? where does it drain to get to the oil pan at the bottom?

Also, (just to understand how a motor works, when the valves open, there is not mixtures or exaust in the area that you look at is there. I ask because if there's not, when your valves open, where does the mixtures and exaust come from that your valves allow entrance into the cylinder/combustion chamber ....im so

Ok, well the oil runs down thru the head, drips around and ends up falling back into the crankcase. The pushrods have holes in them for oil control, etc. Now to answer the second part of your question, I dont really understand it. This may help though.

The air/fuel mixture goes in under the rockers and springs, and exits under it as well. The fuel and exhaust all stay under where the rockers and springs are. Air and fuel come from one side of the head and the exhuast exits out the other side. Make sense, or was that not the question?

The air/fuel mixture goes thru passageways *inside* the heads as does the exhaust. None of it is inside the valve covers. The valves go up and down inside the valve guides and have a seal on top of the guide to help keep oil from getting down around the valve from up above inside the valve covers. Keep in mind where the head of the valve is (the big end) and it should be more apparent to you.
