Default Cams LSA and its effects on Nitrous.

Can someone explain to me why a 114lsa would be better then a 111lsa when using nitrous. This is what ive heard and no one can explain it to me.

well don't quote me, but nitrous likes rpm's and with a 114 lsa the car will really like to spin into the high rpm's where the nitrous likes to be.

It's gonna depend on the other specs. The engine doesn't really see 114 LSA or 224* @ .050", it sees Valve Opening and Closing Points, know what I mean? Billy Godbold from Comp Cams had a nice write up in the back of a FSC magazine. I'll see if I can dig it up.

It's gonna have more to do with the much faster burn rate of Nitrous Oxide in the AFR than anything.

What are the duration @ .050 specs?

The wider LSA is a byproduct of the exhaust valve event timing. For Nitrous you want a real late exhaust event, for two reasons. First, because oxygen is being injected into the engine you do not need the scavanging effect of a tight LSA to bring in a denser air charge. And second, a late exhaust event traps the power stroke for a longer period of time, therefore utilizing more of the power that is generated by the nitrous charge. Remember, tight lobes means more overlap which equals more mid range and upper RPM scavanging, during the scavanging effect your nitrous charge will be pulled right out the tailpipe.
