Default SES Light just turned on...

Does this light turn on every so many miles for maintenace reasons like the oil change light does? I forgot how to reset the SES light. <img src="graemlins/gr_judge.gif" border="0" alt="[judgement]" />

If the SES light came on, you set a code somewhere. Unless the light is flashing at you, its usually a small issue and sometimes will correct itself and go away after a few restarts. If you can get access to an Autotap, have the code checked out if you are curious about what it is.

Autotap can also clear the code once you observe what it is. I wouldn't try to delete it until I knew what it was first.

Hey Tony, I noticed that my alternator is going out too, wonder if it is throwing voltage spikes into my system. I was behind some dump truck the other day and he hit a bump and sand stuff dopped all over the road. Unfortunatly, the alternator is down low on the driver side and did get some sand in it. It started squeaking several days later and the voltage is running kinda high when I first start up in the mornin. It border-line charges at idle now as well. Whats your opinion? Also, Whetre can I get an Autotap for cheap?

Hmmm... that could be a problem. Do you know anyone in your area that can let you borrow their AutoTap for 5 minutes?

Also, check the harness plug on top of the alternator and make sure it is all the way pushed down. Sometimes they work loose on these cars, and if something (chunk of dirt) hit the alternator it might have worked loose.

Thanx. I will check that. I did spray some WD-40 into the alternator and all of this sandy clump stuff came out. The voltage level has stablized somewhat better after doing that but it is still a little high...the needle stopped bobing up and down so much....
