well since you are determined to stick with a GM lobe'd cam I would choose the ASA cam. If you change ur mind def. look into the 224/228 Comp Cam on XE-R lobes or the F13....well proven cams. Like stated above all these cams mentioned are great cams.

TR224@114 is what you should get! great street cam.
FWIW, I DD a LS1 FD RX-7 and love the Hot Cam. Maybe I just don't know any better, but the power is decent and the sound is awesome!

Had the Hotcam in my A4 TA(sig.), liked the sound but not so much the drive and the power wasn't there up top. I wouldn't ever go back to it again. The 228R on a 114LSA would have better driveability and make more power. You can get a hotcam and LS6 springs alot cheaper (mine was $250 from individual) but price shouldn't be the ONLY factor when deciding.

my first cam I went with the hotcam. it was an alright cam, but it was outta there in a year. even the 224 is weak these days, get in the 230+ range. BIGGER IS BETTER! (thats what she said)

I dont think that matters too much, the ASA cam is on a 110 lsa, and it drives just fine.

FWIW, these guys are right, youre not limited to these 2 cams, there are plenty of good cams to choose from, just do your homework (took me 2 yrs. to decide on this one).
P.S. my car is daily driven 50-75mi. per day
What kind of mpg are you getting? I'm thinking about putting the ASA in my 99 A4. thanks-Dave

I just picked up my car yesterday after having a Comps Cam installed. Specs are 232/234 .595/.598 113 lsa. My car is a daily driver for the time being. It has a nasty lopey idle, drive decent and pulls really hard. I was thinking about going to Hotcam or ASA route myself, but glad I didn't. BTW, the car put down 396 rwhp/locked with an A4. I'll post the dyno sheets soon.

I avg. 20 mpg overall. That includes a lot of stop and go city traffic.

I dailey drive my car and drive it like a hot rod too ... and have 40,000 yes I said 40,000 miles on the springs in the car..running a 233\233 .598\.598 112 LSA cam with TSP dual springs, titanium retainers, and push rods..I am getting ready to change springs and go with a differnt cam..buy good springs and you do not have to shange them all the time..check with some of the guys a Texas Speed and ask them how long they have been driving with the springs in their personal cars and you will be hearing the same thing..all this spring changing is BS..unless you just like to do it..a 224\224 or a 226\226 or even better a 224\228 cam will not wear out your drive train and make plenty of HP and TQ..the ASA or hot cam will only make you want more cam once you get it in..pick out a cam in the 220's duration and get a spring kit from TSP and be done with it..then change your spring every 30k or 40K miles..that is what I call low maintaince plus I like the dual springs reliability factor too..

PS I work at a Chevy dealership and I have seen a number of C5 Z06 Corvettes come into the service dept with broken valve springs..(the repair bill is usually $3000 +) I would never run a LS1 or LS6 valve spring in anything that I drive that is for sure ..

I get 25-26 MPG on the highway with my 233\233 .598\.598 112 LSA cam with LS series engines as long as you keep them at 2000 rpms or less they will get good MPG numbers

The only good thing about a ASA or hot cam is the way they sound at idle..they are low on the performance side when compared to the prior mentioned after market cams.. why mod just for the sound..mod for the performance and the sound and buy a real camshaft..

I like my patriot 226 its perfect for me not to bad on lift and makes the power i want cause its also my DD. THe hotcam was what i was considering when i first wanted a cam and i ended up with this and couldt be happier..plus its on a 112 and it chops pretty good.
