Default Another cam thread

Well I'm going to get the PRC LS6 heads from TSP, and I want to get a new cam from them also. I'm just not sure which one, I'm looking at almost all of them from the 228r to MS4, I know big difference. The car is mostly a street car with maybe a couple visits to the track a year and a lot of street racing. I will upgrade the stall when I get the trans built in a couple months also, so I would like help with that also. I will also be getting 90/90 and probably about a 125 shot. Which one would be the best for my setup?
Thanks

you already got a decent stall speed for those range cams. poss. on the larger end of cams could pick up a bit with a higher stall speed, but at a price for street driving.
my vote goes for an MS4 out of the off the shelf cams, but I couldnt decide so i went with a custom cam that I (with help from one of our LS1tech cam guru's)speced out to them. mines a mix of G5X3 and MS4. 235/242 112+2 lsa and .650I .610E lift. I am about to cut the valve notches this week when the tool arrives. since this cam is 112+2 is the only reason I need to cut the notches. with stock heads all those cams should clear W/O the notching.

Well I almost and I mean ALMOST bought a cam kit for an MS3 (and MS3) from TSP's website today. I decided to be somewhat responsible and get my credit card paid off though, was bittersweet indeed.

Go MS3.

I'd go for the torquer, because when you're street racing you can't launch as high as you can at the track, there fore some more midrange will help you out, unless you plan on spraying VHT down on the street.

look at this dyno comparison that vinci did.
comp cams 220/224 with vinci/crane 1.7 rockers vs vinci 055 cam 216/224 with vinci/crane 1.8 rockers

Go MS3.
The only problem I have with the MS3 is the low end or lack there of, from what I've heard, thats why if I go that big I would go with the MS4

Look into the TSP 233/239. The MS might be a bit big unless thats what youre looking for.

The torquer is very similar to the F13, only a touch bigger, but hardly noticeable. I wish I had stepped up to the 233/239 now.

I do love it, but now that I dont have to daily drive my car, I might have liked to have gone a touch bigger.

I came from a f13 so the T2 wasnt a big step up. Then again Im VERY particular about my drivability in terms of bucking, and as marginal as it is now, the 233/239 might well have driven me bat-shiat crazy.

But yes, I do love the torquer 2. Its an outstanding compromise cam.

I would reccommend looking at the Torquer v.3. Probably one of my favorite cams because it is a midsize cam so it retains good street manners while still delivering a lot of power. Brian up here has the PRC stg1 LS6 with the Torquer v.3, with a 4400 TCI stall he was able to make 437 rwhp. Pretty stout setup for an automatic IMO.

any bucking issues, and where did you have it tuned? Did you go to the vette doctors?

No, I woudnt touch that place. Too many bad stories. And I certainly cant say the I enjoyed speaking with carman.

Ive been tuning myself for years. Now, it would be real easy to put the blame on me for not tuning it properly. But after two years, over 300 bin files, a wideband, speed density O/S, and going open loop + MAF, I'm willing to put my drivability up against just about any pro tune. Not saying they couldnt do a better job, but certainly not for the standard tuner price. Ive invested soooooooo much time dialing things in perfectly. Power is another matter since 98% of my tuning is done on the street during my daily commute. I can only gauge my WOT tuning with a G-Tech and the few pulls I got at the local club's dynodays.

When I say its bucking, I don't mean thats its constant. You can easily drive around it. Its only a gentle oscillation at exactly 1600 rpm when between 2% and 5% tps. Just enough to idle through a parking lot in first gear. Thats it. And Ive yet to meet another cam (save perhaps baby cams) that doesn't have this same issue. It probably doesn't bother most people. In fact My bone stock WRX does the exact same thing - even worse. I must be hyper sensitive.
