What oil do you use?
Filter? I just use a Fram or Delco, sometimes a Bosch. Pretty much whatever is available.

I've had good luck with Castrol GTX 10W-30 myself. I don't buy into the whole synthetics stuff, its too expensive and doesn't really offer any more protection. I spun a rod bearing on my motor when it was stock and I had Mobil-1 in it at the time.

Is there any advantage/disadvantage to running 5w-30 with our Houston temperatures, I'm thinking of switching to it. On cool mornings I have a tapping noise that sounds like a partially collapsed lifter, once the engine is warm the noise goes away. This started after my first oil change, been using 10w-30 since breakin. Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Chris

I will never understand why it is people will burn 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 dollar a quart oil, citing, "it's the best" and then compromise on things like suspension components, citing "it's good enough".
Havoline 10W30 every 2500 miles
100s of time slips
2 seasons of AX
500+ miles on a local road course
65K miles
Never had a wrench on the motor or trans. Still running the original clutch!
PS: I'll check out that poll later, another good idea.................
I'm using 10w40 Mobil 1 synthetic!!

How is that possible? Mobil 1 doesn't make a 10w40. Even if they did, that viscosity is not recommended by GM and your warranty will be void.

And I will never understand why people would skimp on a couple of bucks a quart on motor oil since without a working motor all those fancy suspension parts are useless
I can afford the oil, it does have better characteristics (whether they make a material difference or not is debateable, but they do have better "stats) - so why not?
Though i think your question was in jest, the answer is of course cashflow. It's easier to spend 20 bucks extra 3 times a year then 400 or whatever once, but all at the same time.
And of course the two "positions" you brought up are neither mutually exclusive nor related. So I have to say it's a bad example.
