Took my car in for an SES light and they claim that the knock sensor is bad. The want to rip off the top of my engine to replace it. I thought that thing was on the outside of the engne. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Do you want a picture of the knock sensor, or where it sits???
there's a plate on top of the engine, it's rectangular and runs from the front to the back. The two knock sensors are mounted one towards the front and one towards the back of this plate. You definately have to take the intake manifold off to get to it. they kinda look like fat spark plugs, and thread in from the top of the plate.

How much time do you think it would take to remove the intake and is there a special tool for removing the knock sensors?
