Default Is SLP coaching BMW and Borla? (headers)

What I'm getting at here is a pic in the newest M/T(pg 108) of Borla's headers for the new Viper. It is very similar to SLP's design for our cars (equal length, and therefore twisted). As is the newest BMW M3 design. I've said since day 1 that this design is a good one, and no one's proven it wrong, yet. Check it out!

For a high spinning motor like yours coupled with a high stall, the jury may still be out as to whether the lower rpm torque outweighs the high end power.

Joel, my point is I think they make as much high end power as any out there, despite the twists and bends. mph is more indicative of power than 60', and I don't think anyone else around me on the list has near full race weight and no suspension mods. I think the headers certainly have something to do with that.

And the BMW M motor revs WAY higher than our motors. So why did they go with twisty equal lengths? Surely the Germans tested every possible design........

Unfortunately, like with any other mod, it's hard to tell unless you test the same mod on the same car at the same track on the same day. Very impractical.

I've heard from a memeber with SLPs that did a lot of research, that his gains in the midrange were greater than similarly modded cars that had other headers. At peak his gains weren't anything to write home about, but at maybe 4000-5000 or so he picked up a good bit. He had an M6 in a heavy car, so it would have definently helped him get down the track. Forgot what cam he was using though.

Ever seen the original Ford GT40 headers

JS - I'm not doubting anyone here, and certainly not Nick A if he said that. I'm only saying I haven't seen proof. So far, on cars with similar setups (stock cubes), the SLP's seem to mph as well or better than the other straighter, or bigger headers.

It's my opinion that the gains with the stepped headers will only come into play with a VERY aggressive setup, and/or maybe only with additional cubes.

Haven't done anything yet, but I'm planning on losing a little weight and experimenting with my first suspension mods.

Sounds like you've got some significant changes coming. Good luck with the new setup!!

I gotta agree with Joel
Your SLP's wont produce as much HP about 5500rpm as a Dynatech stepped especially on a H/C car like yours shifting at 6500...

With the 4400 U wont need the bottem end Tq

I'm going to a 4600 and Stepped Dynas and will be shifting 6700-6800

Dave I hear your redoing your setup?
Lightening the car for sure.
Cam change perhaps?

Get the Dynatechs buddy.
Even Nick A. said there a must on a agressive H/C car...

Guys -

Dont judge the SLP's simply by the dyno numbers. Most of the more serious and experienced guys know the insignificance of most dyno queen numbers. The truth is told at the track - The most important capability of the SLP headers is their 'active scavenging' - AKA - FAST REV / ACCELERATION! That is what they were primarily designed for. Those that try them quickly learn the importance of the tuned length, and insignificance of the twisted pipes (and dyno numbers for that matter).

We spin our Ultra-Z engine to 7k without problems (with our headers).
