What did you pay for your build?
Fully built motors alone... not supporting mods.
I am trying to get a guestimate on how much a 408 would cost me on the motor alone. Parts list if you can... and track/dyno numbers if you got em'.
If you don't want to post... PM me please? I just want to have many fast cars!!

Cost is one thing in a build, but the most important is who does it. Do a search and you will see the builders you need to deal with.
Good luck on the build.

it depends on if you go mild to wild. you should expect to spend 7k min for a simple setup to 10k for top of the line everything. The best parts in the world wont help unless the people putting it together know what they are doing. Plenty of good companies here to get it done.

I went 347 with ETP heads. Speed inc built it. I did all the labor on the install. It adds up quick when you start looking at the supporting stuff needed. Also the small stuff will nickle and dime you.

$4500 - 347 short block w/ callies h-beam rods w/arp rod botls, wiseco -2cc pistons, ARP studs through-out rollmaster double roller timing chain w/torrington brgs nitirided gears, Melling ported oil pump, GM Hi perf lifters, custom ground cam
$2000 - Edelbrock TSP heads
Throw in another $750'ish in misc items and the total is more like $7500 for a bullet proof 347.
Then add $1100 for a Mcleod twin disk and $2400 for a 9 inch rear. $500 or so for suspension parts.
My guess for a complete 408 would be $8000-$10,000

My '01 SS will be ready on Monday from HPE! 408 would have cost a little over 10g's installed if I didnt have my own heads already. It will be going back under the knife in Feb. for some stage III heads. The shortblock was $4199 for the forged setup. Should be well worth the money, remember that you get what you pay for!
