Hey guys I have all the materials necessary to do the PCV mod (Steve's) and I'm curious if there is a way to check to see if this mod will actually help with my oil consumption problem. --In otherwords is there anything I can check for to see if oil is getting in the intake. PLEASE be as elementary as possible as I'm quite new at this. I CAN say that there was SOME stuff in my throttle body but no TOO MUCH any other ideas?! Thanks guys!

I prefer the SMH w/o the catch can. The Dual filters are what seems to help the most. I replace them every oil change.

 

So with that mod I'd do the SMH, however, just leave off the portion with the catch can and use the two filters? any other tips folks?!

Ya. You can just put a 3/8" vacuum cap where the T goes to the Catch Can to leave yourself flexibility (capped mine like this) or just use an Elbow instead of a T there.

Yes, thouroughly clean the line that plugs into the intake and after a week or so, pull the line and it should still be clean and dry.

 

Yeah, I could actually pull mine off and shake it hard against the ground and oil would fly out. Clean the lines out and check later on with a Q-tip or something.

 

You'll probably want to clean the oil off your TB blade while you're at it. You can check it later to see that it stays clean.

Did you use just the new PCV valve with the your stock PCV system? You had oil consumption problems with the stock PCV valve and you went to the new PCV valve and it cured your oil consumption? Do you know if GM has a TSB that will replace the stock PCV valve with the new one under warranty?

If you could confirm this I would really appreciate it.

I just talked to the GM parts dept. a Les Marks Chevrolet in La Porte, Tx. and gave him part# 12572717. The parts guy on the phone said that it was a "fitting". He said that he had no other details and could not offer a better description for the part.

Can you describe what the new PCV valve looks like or post a picture of it? If I order the part exactly by this part number (no letters?) will I get the PCV valve that you are talking about? I asked him if it was a PCV valve and all he could tell me was that it was a fitting.

MMiller, it is called a fitting. It looks no different than the normal valve. GM wants to call it a fitting because it is a hollow PCV valve. Have them order you one. Joe..

 

So this new FITTING as we call it will directly replace the PCV valve and should reduce consumption similar to a catch can filter system? Just checking 'cuz I'd like to avoid having to install a system like that in a 20+ thousand dollar car!!!!
