Most lift with stock heads?
Most lift with stock heads? I'm wondering how much lift you can run on a cam with an ls1 with stock heads before there are clearance issues? I'm wanting to swap in a biiger cam and later on go with some stageII heads. Anybody know the specs?

Re: Most lift with stock heads? I would tend to think that just from a clearance standpoint, you could get away with more lift with stock heads, since most ported heads have larger valves, and have been milled some, both reducing piston to valve clearance.
There's more to the equation than just lift, though. The opening/closing events of the cam will determine exactly when the valve is at max lift relative to piston position. I don't think there's any specific "max lift" numer out there, as it will vary with the other cam specs...

Re: Most lift with stock heads? What he said. One of the most important factors is going to be the duration at a given lift. You would also have to consider what your springs can handle and how fast you plan on turning your engine. Just because the clearance looks good on paper, doesn't necessarily mean it's safe. Valve float will keep the valves "in the air" a bit longer.

Re: Most lift with stock heads? I'm looking for a very general number. about how much lift can you go with on one of the common cams with a .222 to .224 duration on a 114lsa?
