Default Removing cats for Stright line pipes.. What do I need?

I am removing my cats this week and putting in straight line performances pipes with O2 sims.. Does the cat have a metal gasket that can be re used? Do I need to order gaskets? Is there a part number I need? Is there anything I need to watch for?

This is a 2001 SS.

I bought new gaskets just because they are pretty cheap (I paid like $8 for both). They are called “converter gaskets”, but I don’t remember the part number. You will need a deep 15mm socket for the cat to manifold bolts, and I believe a 13mm for the cat to Y-pipe nuts (I’m pretty sure it’s 13mm). Also plenty of extensions to reach up to the cat to manifold bolts. It’s really straight forward, and the only thing you have to watch for is the B2S1 O2 (passenger side, first sensor) as it’s part of the cat pipe and must be removed. I don’t know what size it is though, as I just used a crescent wrench.

Good luck <img src="gr_stretch.gif" border="0">

I can't find the gaskets anywhere.. Any ideas? I believe the 98-99 are welded in. Does the 2000 have the same gaskets? I have GM part numbers but they don't have them..

I have an account with one of my local GM dealers, and I order them from there. I don’t remember the Part #’s though, but I can tell you that all I told them was “converter gaskets” for right and left sides. They ordered them for me and I had them right away. I don’t know if the pre ’00 gaskets will work on an ’00 or not as I’ve never tried them.

Have you tried a GM dealer yet?

They can’t order the other one for you? Same thing happened to me, one side was an “in stock” item and the other side was “order only”. I got the order only one in two days.

RPM.. I found a dealer that had both in stock last night. I wanted to do this last night for the track this weekend as I don't have time tonight and tomorrow I am supposed to spend time with my girlfriend..

I started to do them after all my intake and N20 stuff last night. Had to take it to the dealer.. Started at 9:30 and didn't want to fire up the compressor.. I got the first nut 1/2 way off with a ratchet.. Then I could not turn it any more. (Was using a 1/2 drive ratchet almose 1 foot long) The nut was stuck. I said fug it, and fired up the compressor and tightened it back up.. I'm gonna try for tomorrow now. Girlfriend might be upset, but I think she understands my love for the car..

Thanks again for the info..
