Best way to administer the GM topend cleaner?

At GM dealers we spray into PCV valve with engine at full temp at idle, until white smoke comes out of exhaust. Shut off motor, leave in motor for as many hours as you can , warm up motor, and make full throttle runs down hiway, until exhaust is clean. Liquid cleaner was designed for carbureted motors. You could use it but you would have to restrict amount somehow to prevent hydro locking motor. Good luck

On the LS1 Pickup's we remove all the spark plugs and add about 4oz of Top engine cleaner to each cylinder, with the engine warm, but not hot. Let it sit overnight and crank the engine over with the ignition/fuel systems disabled to empty the cleaner from the cylinders (this makes a mess). Make sure to get it all out so you don't hydrolock the engine.
Reinstall the plugs, enable the fuel/ignition systems, and try to start. It asks like it will be flooded, but once you get it running take it for a hard drive to clean that crap out.
Then you would want to change the engine oil in case any of the solvent got into the crankcase.

Probably the EASIEST way is to get the GM cleaner in the aerosol can and spray it right down the TB while holding a slightly higher idle. Then you shut it off and let it sit, then go blow it out. Anyway, the instructions are on the can. Be prepared to blow lots of white smoke!
I did this at ~45000 miles and my KR disappeared.

what's in that stuff, anyway?
anything that dissolves carbon has got to be pretty corrosive, and getting a chunk of carbon caught between a valve and its seat can't be too good

I don't have the contents listed here, but from my testing of it....It merely softens the carbon deposits, the hard driving is what chunks them out the exhaust. You can really feel the difference on a carburated engine moreso than a EFI car after the treatment, especially if its an old-lady-15mph-top-speed-to-Sunday-church-car.

Hey J+JSTA, the only reason i mentioned that is you dont want to run motor with MAF off to spray cleaner, and maf is in the way of spraying throttle body! BTW its the ROAD TEST of your car at the dealership YOU should be worried about!

Hey LS1derfull, that is what I was J/K about the "FULL THROTTLE RUNS" None of my vehicles will start without the MAF in place, how else can you accomplish this?

The fresh air port at throttle body or the pcv valve would work ok(fap port is one above pcv valve)

Anyone have a part number or name for this cleaner?
Thanks!
Chris
ps- Will it hurt cats if you perform this with cats on the car?
Or should you do it without cats on the car?

Chris, I know it's cat friendly. A buddy of mine runs this through his LT1 with cats on the car. He has done it 2 or 3 times without any problems. It does make the car smoke like a 82 Buick though LOL.
You can just ask for it by name at the dealer in the liquid form. Does that apply for the spray as well???

Service mansger at dealership suggest get 2 cans of liquid , pore into plastic bottle ,punch a small hole in end of bottle ,hold finger over hole so you may control the flow of liquid, allow the first can to run into engine slow do not choke it down ,rush about 1/2 of second can into engine >> allow to choke down < let set 10-12 hours then restart and slowly pore ihe last 1/2 can in do not allow to choke down ,run untill stop smooking then run afew minutes more then >>change oil and filter <<
TO pore into engine remove the PVC value onto your plastic bottle tape a short peice of rubber hose and insert where the PVC goes down by the TB
Sorry so long the reply Johnny
