Default Got the heads off, but...

it looks like I have some problems inside my motor. The #3 cylinder wall has scoring marks all the way around. The marks run straight up and down and stop just below the top of the cylinder wall. A couple of the marks are deep enough so that you can feel them with your finger pretty easily. A few months ago I noticed that the #3 cylinder was down on compression compared to the others. It was only around 180, the others were all over 200. The combustion chamber on this cylinder also is a little bit more black than any of the others. The #7 cylinder wall has a couple of very small marks in it similar to the bad ones seen in the #3 cyl, except that they are faint and you can't really feel them. It seems pretty obvious that there is some kind of problem with the #3 cylinder. What do you guys think is wrong with it. How bad of an idea would it be to just leave it alone and put it back together? I don't really want to replace the engine or have it rebuilt right now. What would I need to do to fix the problem? Would the best idea be to have the cylinder wall honed out and get a new piston, or should I have the sleeve replaced and put in a new piston with that? I really am not sure what I should do. Can anybody help me out?

Thanks
Jordan

Re-sleeving is very expensive. I wouldn't bolt it together and pray. It is going to get worse. YOu may not want too, but it is time to have the piston removed the rings replaced and have the cylinder honed.

Sterling.

Nitrous on the this motor? Possibly a ring is cracked or the rings are tight and butted up against each other for some reason.

The motor hasn't seen any nitrous. I wonder what would have caused this, because the car hasn't seen too much abuse. It only has 12000 miles on it, and not a whole lot of passes at the track, either. I'm not sure what to do about it.
