Default PLEASE HELP! Problems after plug install

Hi all,

Please help if you can. I just changed the plugs in my stock (except for lid) 2001 Z28 the other day. Ever since I have had a slightly rough idle. I put in NGK TR55s gapped at 0.055. All torqued in to 11ft/lbs. I re-used the stock wires.

I would like to eliminate the idle problem if I could. Any thoughts on the cause?? I have checked the wire connections, and they are all tight. Should I pull the plugs and gap them to 0.060?? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Mike

Just a guess but did you use anti-sieze on the plug threads? If so, you may have gotten some on the plug itself and this may have cuased the rough idle. Just a thought.

We’ve put TR55 and TR6s in many LS1s, and never had an idle problem. Unless you have a cracked plug or something, I can’t see how the plugs themselves would be the issue...

Just walked out and checked connections again, and found a tear (pretty large slit) in the insulation of plug #7 plug wire. This must be where my rough idle is coming from. I remember snagging it on a little piece of very sharp aluminum near the top of the motor (same one that cut my hand). I did not think anything about it at the time, but it really cut the wire good. Thanks for the quick response, I will be ordering wires in a second.
