Default What do you think of this heads/cam plan?

I was thinking about upgrading my heads/cam to a more aggressive combo

I was thinking about ARE's S2 heads with 11.2:1 compression, DOUBLE springs, and port them to match the following cam

224/224 114LSA and 600-.610 lift.

That should idle decent in my 360 motor with the 114LSA and 224 duration but make great power with the 600 lift and double springs.
What do you guys think? Do you think a 600 lift cam with double springs can be durable on the street? I think it would give great power while maintaining drivability and emissions concerns.
What are your opinions? Worthwhile to change from my B1 cam and S1 blower ported (9.7:1) heads? Should I just max out my S1's with the 2.02/1.57 valve combo and throw double springs on them?
Cheers,
Chris

Won't you have to change pushrods also? Seems like you will need shorter ones? Otherwise, more lift is good

IMO I would just upgrade the heads, and run more compression if you are not going to run a blower anymore.

I saw a Powerdyne for sale in the classifieds for like 2200 or 2500

edit - he's asking 2800, but I wouldn't offer 2500 if I didn't want it.

If its cheaper to sell your heads and buy S2's, go that route. If its cheaper to upgrade, their ya go. If your motor has a larger bore, the larger intake valve and unshrouding of the intake valve of a S2 will really help. The cam and compression look good. It should run strong/idle decent and if you ever want a little shot of the giggle juice, it should work well also.

I've seen some really good numbers with the MMS 229v2 camshaft. Get that along with some fully ported heads and you'll pick up 20rwhp I bet.

Before I would run lift that high I would check to see just how much you really need it. Will it really add that much over a much-easier-on-the-valvetrain 0.560 or 0.570? You could also avoid some spring issues if you were to keep it a little lower.

To check this, I would get the head flow data and see what that extra lift is getting for you before making that decision. If it looks that much higher, and you have some really good springs, maybe it will work for you.

Chris, I would only upgrade the cam if you can sell your B1 at a good price and get a good deal on the new one. The specs I would look into would be around 224 to 226 duration and around .580 lift (single pattern cam). See what the ARE stg 2 heads flow in the upper lifts and go from there. I think over .600 lift would be a little on the high side though. Compression around 11.0:1 would be ideal.

If I was to do a hydraulic heads/cam setup, that is what I would do. If you REALLY want to upgrade, how about a solid roller.

Get the heads, but run more duration and less lift, maybe .580. Nick seems like a lot of duration with his stuff.

Will you pass emissions on 11.2 CR?

BTW, Get in on Grots GP if you're going to go this route.

That sounds pretty good but I would check piston to valve clearance just to be sure. Clay works well for that. Good luck!
