well i have the 233-239 .598-.603 113+1 tsp on my 346 11.3:1SCR 8.5DCR for the fun of it i called COMP and they said a 242-248 .610-.615 on a 114+4 is what they said to do. for my new 402 it will hav the same 11.3:1 8.35:1DCR my only fear is this new cam will have a way lower DCR and nothing for bottom end.
it needs to be a DD and im keepin the AFR205s and 1 3/4 headers.
what you all think

A stroker is going to have more "bottom end" than you need anyways. Comp is right. Call HPE and get a Big E cam from them. 244/248 .612 .615 that cam made 470hp and 470 tq in a buddys 408 with STOCK 241 heads. Torque curve was very flat and drove great with 3.42 gears. With 3.90 gears it was insane, you couldnt get it to hook for ****.

You have 11.54 comp and 8.42 DCR with the 402, 66 head cc, 7 thou out of the hole flat top pistons and .052 gasket thickness.
That is using the 242/248 114+4 XE-R cam. Should be a good combo on pump gas.
The smaller cam calcs out to: ~8.58 DCR (I used comp XE-R lobes in my calcs)
Both would be good cams, I actually like the smaller one as well. I think it'd give more area under the curve from 1800-5500rpm where you will do the meat of your driving. (If it is a street car)
Both would work fine though imo, depends on where your powerband preference is

I built a 408 with the 233/239.....awesome torque and good power, but that was with a stock truck intake and throttle body, now its getting the VIctor Jr. and 4bbl throttle body as well as probably the 244/248 110lsa. The only reason I went with the 233/239 anyways is to try to keep the pwerband within the range of the truck manifold. Go with the 242/248!

to me .... wanna smack and pull better past 6000 rmp and when you change to the next gear go with a bigger cam .... want better idle vacuum and a tamer idle and traffic light easy running stay 233-239.
the 233-239 cam is in a 346 .... now he has a 408 so the same cam is ok? I know it will work but I mean for the added stroke and different short block motion could you have a 233-239 cam ground on something with better specs (if there are others than what I`ll say) other than the the duration@50 maximum lift and lsa and icl where both the standard 346 cam and the 408 cam will be the same?
sorry just had to ask maybe it`s stupid! maybe I`ll learn something for a stroker build.
