HELP! installed slp longtubes Y pipe banging
I just installed my slp longtubes off road y pipe and borla cat back. The y pipe is banging on accelleration and almost instantly the knock sensor must be picking it up and running like crap for a second. any fix for this? makes you mad having spent over $1000 for these headers.

Terry, what type of cat-back do you have? I might have an idea of what is banging...

Saw this in another thread, thought you might want to see it regarding the banging issue.

It only bangs (if installed WRONG) on the lip of the driveshaft tunnel. Nowhere else that I’ve seen on a few cars with this combo. If the installer knows what he’s doing and tightens everything up back to front this won’t be an issue. This is exactly how we’ve fixed that banging.

Re: HELP! installed slp longtubes Y pipe banging
This is correct. Start by checking the area where the I-pipe meets the Y-pipe. It will probably be about an 1/8 inch away from the side of where the floor board curves up into the drive shaft tunnel. This is where it almost always bangs. Just loosen the bolts for where the other end of the Y-pipe clamps to the cats/off road pipes, and then loosen the two mounting bolts for the back end of the Y-pipe. Now, using a crow bar or something shove the Y-pipe (at the I-pipe intersection) away from the passenger side of the driveshaft tunnel. Once you have a good deal of clearance, tighten the back bolts first, and then the front clamps. The banging should no longer exist. If you have a cat back (like the loudmouth) where there is any dropping down for a resonator or bullet muffler in the I-pipe, and the I-pipe is not perfectly strait this might be jamming the Y-pipe into that driveshaft tunnel. At that point you can either try and straiten the I-pipe or glue some heat resistant rubber to that part of the tunnel (or both for added protection).
Hope this helps...

Re: HELP! installed slp longtubes Y pipe banging
It could also be banging the floor board where the off road pipe connects to the Y-pipe on the drivers side. This is where mine has been banging.
