grinding in the valley area is the major issue if motor is together.

This is a very bad idea. I tried this on a 98 LS1 and I think PSJ has done it as well. The LS6 valley cover includes a very nice oil/air seperator and the nipple for the PCV system. It may reduce oil consumption on vehicles using oil through the stock LS1 style PCV(it did on mine). However, and this is a big however, you have to remove a very large amount of aluminum in the engine valley. I DO NOT recommend you grind this aluminum, if you truely have to do it. Get a couple of small chisels and slowely work the aluminum "boss" out of the valley. The best description I got on the "boss" was that it is an alignment marker for the automated CNC processing the block goes through. LS6 style blocks to not have this "boss", so if you have a late 2001 or a 2002 model LS1, you may be in luck and not have the piece to remove.

With my old 98 motor, part of the block underneath the valley needed to be clearanced.

John, you were up in the shop at Westech when I was knocking out those bosses with a cold chisel. Not a big deal. Just seal up the two holes with clean shop towels and hammer away. I used a shop vac to get up all the pieces. You do have to take quite a bit of the boss out to get it to fit. It did eliminate all of my oil consumption problems when road racing. I was going through about a quart of Mobil 1 every twenty minute session. Now, I don't go through any at all.

But, I never was getting any oil consumption problems on the street though, just when road racing.

Does anyone have pics. of the modification that is done to the block? Can you just break off the ribs with a large ajustable wrench? Looking to do this mod soon. <img src="images/icons/confused.gif" border="0">

Yup, I saw Keith performing some surgery. Didn't look difficult, but you'd want to make sure you got all the pieces.
