Default How many have upgraded lifters; why and to what?

At what point is it necessary to upgrade LS1 lifters? Cam level? Heads/cam level? Certain cam specs? And what did you upgrade to? Comp Rs?

Should I upgrade the lifters for just a B1 (221/221//.559/.559//114) cam?

I upgraded to CompCams 875 "R" lifters back when I originally did my GTP heads and cam, just because they're supposed to be a little better at high rpm stability, due mostly (I believe) to their anti pump-up characteristics.

I don't know what kind of luck I would've had if I had kept the stock lifters, but I've been very pleased with the Comps. I was turning my engine 7100-7200 rpm or so with no valve float problems, and I'm sure the Comp lifters helped in that category.

Comp Cams here too. I destroyed a few of my lifters when the cam walked and I decided to upgrade to better ones just for the heck of it. I figured with my cam that the better the valvetrain...well, THE BETTER!

GeorgeC...I can see why that would be a good upgrade when your turning 7000+ rpm, and Colonel, it’s pretty obvious why you would need to upgrade ANYTHING possible for your setup But for me (63/6400 rpms tops) and stock heads with just a B1 cam, is it really necessary?

I have Comp Cams lifters too. They aren't necessarily better than stock (they look identical), but my stock ones had 75K miles on them and two of them were rattling pretty badly in my hand when we disassembled the motor.

I think I’ll probably just leave the stock ones then. I’ve only got 5000 miles on them anyway.

Anyone using stock lifters with just a B1 type cam long term on here without any issues?

Thanks for the replies so far guys

I'd say MOST people with B1s or other cams are using the stock lifters.

They'll be fine.
