Default Equus temp. adapter broke off in the cyl. head!!

I was using the Equus temp. sender adapter kit to put an autometer 1/8 sender in my pass. side cylinder head and after barely snugging it down the threads sheared off in my cylinder head. It was barely even tight and I had a little anti-sieze on it. Any ideas on how to get it out?

Awfully glad I didn't use the cyl head for my temp sender now! Whew!

Go freeze plug! <img src="gr_stretch.gif" border="0">

is the freeze plug your talking about the
same as the one directly below the oil
filler tube on the front side of the pass
side head??
If there is on on the back that you have talked
about how do you get it out.. I know once we
talked about it being threaded but the one
in the front seems pressed in ??
Dope give us a proceedure .. Im ready to try it.

The one I'm talking about is directly above the starter. Undo the starter (2 bolts), finangle it out of the way and look directly up. Freeze plug is right there. Use one of the autometer adapters and bingo, you're in. Don't even have to unplug the starter if you move it out of the way and tie it to something.

I just intalled my water temp sender unit in that same location. Just remove the two bolts in the starter and drop it down. Then just use an 8mm hex to get the plug out, and yes it is threaded. Antifreeze does come out so be expecting it, Antifreeze in the eye doesn't feel to good. Just have the sending unit ready to go in. The sending unit fits great in there with the smaller of the two adapters.

I also installed an Oil pressure sending unit on the housing that is on top of the oil filter. First you have to remove the CAT then unbolt the two bolts holding the housing on. Oil will come down so have bowl ready. Drill and tap the housing. The oil pressure sending unit was a 1/8th tap. The housing is aluminum so it drills and taps easily. Anyways good luck.

Also, where would be a good place for my oil temp unit? I haven't found one yet. I really didn't want to tap my oil pan. Any suggestions?

Jauch: unfortunately, the place you spoke of IS the place where most people install their oil temp senders (and I am going to install mine).

So I don't have any other solutions for ya, sorry <img src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" border="0">

With the Oil pressure sending unit being so bulky, and it actually fit in that location great without any problems with the cat. I just figured that the oil temp unit would be easier to place elsewhere than the oil pressure unit.

I did see that plug when I was installing the oil pressure sending unit, and I assumed it was just another water port as the other side. Anyone know for sure?

It is my understanding that you can install an oil temp, or oil pressure sender at any oil passage. So they are basically interchangable, I guess.

The one you spoke of, above the filter, by the cat, is the stock sending for the oil temp gauge on Corvettes. Are there any other plugs that have access to oil passages?
