Default Hittin limiter, Why cant I manually shift???

I am not sure if this is engine or dtrain, but my car will not manually shift without hittin the rev limiter. I can start out in first and as soon as i nail the throttle i can shift into second but it keeps goin to the limiter. It doesnt matter what I do I cant manually shift it...
If I leave it in drive or OD it shifts at exactly the shift points set in the HPP3. Also at part throttle I can manually shift it. I was thinkin that it might be normal since the car is a 98 based off of MPH shift points. I put 3.73 gears in it and the MPH is not the same. Please give me some peace of mind so I dont think my A4 is going titsup. Thanx... <img src="images/icons/confused.gif" border="0">
