Default Push rod length.....hhmmmm?

All,

To make a long story short, I measured the push rods I'm currently using (or was as I'm currently building up a new motor) and they measure 7.420" but are marked 7.400".

I'd expect maybe +/- .001 to .002" on the length for a precision part made on a lathe but this is rediculous. Anyone else seen this before?

Pushrod length is measured by "Gauge Length", which is a measurement taken where the diameter on the ball end is 0.140". As an approximation, if you take an overall length measurement and subtract 0.017" from it you will get the gauge length. So if you measured 7.420" and subtract the approximate correction of 0.017" you will get 7.403", which is just about right.

Comp Cams has a good write-up on the pushrod measurements in their catalog on line.
