Default Exhaust after headers & ORP install...

I'm installing Grott's w/ORP this weekend. I have had a cutout for two years, and the stock muffler is still in place because I run the cutout open 24/7/365. I've always loved the sound of the motor with the cutout, but now that the cats will be gone, the sound will be different...

I'm not worried about noise - I want the best sound and the best performance, as the car isn't a daily driver.

What would be the best option for me?

It's hard to say what the best setup will be for you because exhaust systems are very subjective when it comes to sound. I had a 3.5" Mufflex, and it was just too loud for me. I've since switched to an SLP dual/dual, and it's MUCH quieter. I'm running FLP longtubes w/ the ORP, and it's still very quiet. Most are surprised when I tell them that I'm running headers and no cats! I bought mine used out of the classifieds for a little over $200. I've track-tested it twice with the cutout open vs. closed, and I've yet to gain any ET or MPH with the cutout open. It is definitely one of the better-flowing quiet systems out there. Some think it's too quiet, though, so that's gonna have to be your call. I'm very happy with mine. Your car will no doubt be LOUD with an open cutout, headers, and an ORP.

When I did FLP w/ orp and had the cutout in stock exhaust it was louder, but had a weird sound to it. Not bad sound, but it sounded like a mini nascar metallic sound at full throttle..30% louder than it was before, then I got the hooker catback put on and it sounds sweeeeet, very quiet, almost as quiet as the cutout with stock manifolds. Then I got the cutout put on in i pipe. LOUD is an understatement. cars will literally move out of your way just rolling around, I run with the cutout open 24/7, bought a mccord power plate, that way I can close it inside the car whenever I want and be totally quiet again (compared to open headers) I LOVE this setup and wouldnt go back, have no regrets and im a picky person.
Good luck with whatever ya go with, but if you get a catback get the hooker. Ive seen not a single person unsatisifed with this catback.

I've read alot of good stuff about the Hooker catback + headers/ORP - mostly about how good it sounds. While I've read that the quality of the Hooker is questionable, for the price, it's pretty unbeatable if it sounds and performs as good as I've read.

The SLP dual/dual is probably quieter than I want to go since I like the noise... and since the car is only a sunny day/weekend toy, the noise isn't really a consideration. I'm going to keep the cutout in the i-pipe and do some track testing to see if it nets any gains when open vs. whatever catback I go to. For now, I'm going to leave the stock muffler and fabricate a few plates to play with the cutout.

Thanks guys...

Please post your results with the Grots, O/R and cutout closed. I've got the Grots sitting here with the cat/y-pipe, but am thinking of having my muffler guy fabricate an O/F pipe to go with my B&B catback. My car isn't a daily driver either, mostly a toy I run on roadcourse where I open the Zed cutout.

I'm noticing that some of the sponsors carry just the Hooker "aero chamber" muffler that comes with the Hooker catback. I'm thinking that's a cheap route to go... and get the same result as replacing the whole catback system.

Is there any reason why I'd replace the whole catback system, or would splicing just the muffler in make the same difference? I prefer the look of the stock tips on my WS6... and the muffler is $85 as opposed to $299 for the whole catback. I'd prefer to save the $214 difference.

We ordered three sets of Grott's, and one of the three sets is going on a car that is getting heads/cam/headers and just about everything you can think of incidental to that install. We're waiting to have a dyno day with the club until after all three installs are complete. As soon as I have the results, I will post them.
